Facts on the Quran

NO matter how long and how hard to try to find the terms:
1) Suicide,
2) Eagle
3) Virgins
About Suicide:
The term suicide does NOT appear in the Holy Quran.
As a matter of fact suicide is strictly prohibited by Islam. But to find that information you need to look at the Hadith.
Sunnah has come to denote the way Prophet Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, lived his life. The Sunnah is the second source of Islamic jurisprudence, the first being the Quran. Both sources are indispensable; one cannot practice Islam without consulting both of them. The Arabic word hadith (pl. ahadith) is very similar to Sunnah, but not identical. A hadith is a narration about the life of the Prophet or what he approved - as opposed to his life itself.
At the age of 25 the Prophet married to Khadijah the Great. For years he retired (sometimes with Khadijah) to Mount Hira for peaceful contemplation. During that time an angel came to him and ordered him to"Read""Proclaim" or "Recite". The Prophet didn't know how to read. His mission was to transcribe Allah's word. For 2 years the Prophet took notes (some of them dated). When he shared his experience with Khadijah she comforted him and immediately knew it was no dream or delusion. She consulted her cousin Waraqah and they both rejoiced that he, Muhammad, was Allah's chosen One. Later his notes were studied and every attempt was made to chronologically assemble them in one edition: The Quran. The hadith dealt with matters including Theology, Ethics and Exegesis (explanation of the Quran).
Getting back to "Suicide" here are hadith verses on the matter:
Volume 2, Book 23, Number 445 (Narrated Thabit bin Ad-Dahhak:)

The Prophet (p.b.u.h) said, "Whoever intentionally swears falsely by a religion other than Islam, then he is what he has said, (e.g. if he says, 'If such thing is not true then I am a Jew,' he is really a Jew). And whoever commits suicide with piece of iron will be punished with the same piece of iron in the Hell Fire." Narrated Jundab the Prophet said, "A man was inflicted with wounds and he committed suicide, and so Allah said: My slave has caused death on himself hurriedly, so I forbid Paradise for him."

Volume 2, Book 23, Number 446: (Narrated Abu Huraira)

The Prophet said, "He who commits suicide by throttling shall keep on throttling himself in the Hell Fire (forever) and he who commits suicide by stabbing himself shall keep on stabbing himself in the Hell-Fire."

LESSON LEARNED: "Suicide" is strictly prohibited by the Hadith. Therefore madrese (schools) & Imams calling for self sacrifice use the term "Martyr". Here the warrior's goal is to kill as many enemy combatants as possible and if he/she happens to die in the process, he/she becomes a martyr which will provide him/her access to heaven.

About Eagle:
As the preparations for the war in Iraq were underway an email about verse 9:11 was being widely distributed.
Here it is:
"Quran (9:11) --For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace."
As realistic as this may look and sound,
Surah 9, Verse 11 states the following:
"But, if they repent, Establish regular prayers, And practice regular charity, They are your brethren in Faith: Thus do We explain the Signs In detail, for those who understand."
Surah 9 deals with the Question: What is to be done if the enemy breaks faith and is guilty of treachery?
Historical facts: As the Byzantines were preparing to invade Arabia, the Prophet marched to Tabuk with a large force and consolidated the muslim position by making treaties with certain Christian and Jewish tribes near the Gulf of Aqabah. He then returned to Medina. During his absence the treaty was breached by the Pagans. Although the terms of the treaty were broken four months time was given for adjustments and repentance. This verse (9:11) is about REPENTANCE!
LESSON LEARNED: Just because it looks good and sounds good doesn't make it true. Check your facts! Do some research online (no blogs) or in the library or book store.
About Virgins:
The Term Virgin is NOT the Quran!
However, we can find "companions" also referred to as "Hur". It implies the following idea: Purity, beauty (especially of the eyes where the white of the eyeballs stands out against the intense balck of the pupil..thus the apperance of lustre) and truth and good will.  Note that a "hur" or "houries" are indeed implied as sexual pleasure mates for men, but they are not human in that they don't have souls and they never lived on earth or endured Judgement  or entered Paradise. Like their servant boy cousins, they were created by God as special heavenly creatures in Paradise for the purpose of entertaining its inhabitants.
The Supreme Achievement, True Salvation is seeing the Face of Allah. It can be described in 3 symbols:
Fruit Garden (the most characteristic fruit is the grape),
The Companion of Equal Age (Hur, symbol of purity, grace, beauty, innocence, truth and sympathy),
The Cup (brings the unbound beauty of Allah)
The following Surahs provide some insight on the Garden promised:

In Gardens of Felicity,
Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity):
Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain,
Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink

Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom.
And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty).

Surah 38 Verses 50 - 53

Gardens of Eternity, whose doors will (ever) be open to them;
Therein will they recline (at ease): Therein can they call (at pleasure) for fruit in abundance, and (delicious) drink;
And beside them will be chaste women restraining their glances, (companions) of equal age.
Such is the Promise made, to you for the Day of Account!

Surah 78 Verses 31 - 35

Verily for the Righteous there will be a fulfilment of (the heart's) desires;
Gardens enclosed, and grapevines;
And voluptuous women of equal age;
And a cup full (to the brim).
No vanity shall they hear therein, nor Untruth:-

LESSON LEARNED: Hoories do provide sexual pleasures however the Supreme Achievement is seeing the Face of Allah. A Hur is just a symbol.
